Responsive Design
How it works
The site uses pages that adapt to whatever screen they are opened on. Rather than maintaining a separate mobile version, the layout responds to the space available: columns that sit side by side on a wide monitor stack into a single column on a phone, images scale to the width they are given, and navigation collapses into a menu when there is no room for a full bar.
Text remains readable without pinching and zooming, and everything reachable with a mouse is equally reachable by touch, with targets large enough to hit comfortably with a thumb.
What it means in practice
Content is written and published once. An editor adds a page without deciding how it should look on a tablet or a phone — the same content is delivered to every visitor, and the presentation adjusts on its own.
This holds across the range of devices people actually use: desktop monitors, laptops, tablets in either orientation, phones of every size, and browsers with text scaled up for readability.
